Match the case to the exact iPhone model whenever possible. Similar dimensions or display sizes do not mean two phones can safely share a case. Treat them as compatible only when Apple or the case maker explicitly lists both.
A case may snap onto the phone and still fit badly. The camera opening can cover a lens. Buttons may not line up, and the bottom cutout may block the port or speakers.
Quick Answer: Can Different iPhone Models Use the Same Case?
Usually, no. Use the full model name, including mini, Plus, Pro, Pro Max, Air or e. Older cases are safe to reuse only when the case listing names the new phone too. A broad label such as “6.1-inch case” is not enough; the detailed compatibility list should include the complete model name.
There are limited exceptions. Apple sold cases that listed both iPhone 12 and iPhone 12 Pro. One case maker also lists a shared shell for iPhone 16e and 17e. Both examples apply to those specific case designs, not every case made for the phones.

Apple's technical pages supply the sizes below. The numbers explain differences, but they do not prove that a case fits. “Exact model” means the approved sources did not verify a shared case.
- Find the full model name first, then read across that row.
- Treat “None verified” as a reason to use the exact-model case, not as proof that a near match can never snap on.
- Use a shared-model note only for a case listing that names both phones. The evidence column shows why the exception appears.

How to Find Your Exact iPhone Model
Open Settings > General > About and read Model Name. Keep the suffix. For example, iPhone 16, iPhone 16 Plus and iPhone 16 Pro need separate case options.
If the phone will not turn on, find its model number and use Apple's Identify your iPhone model page. A visual guess can narrow the list, but it should not be your final check.
After choosing the right iPhone model, browse all iPhone cases. Open the product and select that exact model before ordering.
What Makes an iPhone Case Fully Compatible?
Physically fits means the phone can sit inside the shell. Fully compatible means the whole case works as designed. The camera module stays clear, button placement is correct, and the port and speakers remain open.
A flexible shell may stretch around a near match. That does not fix a bad camera opening or a blocked control. Check the case maker's model list instead of relying on a quick fit test.
Which iPhone Models Can Share the Same Case?
iPhone 12 and iPhone 12 Pro are the clearest Apple-backed example in this chart. Apple listed case SKUs for both. A shared case still needs a camera opening made for both phones, so read the exact product listing.
A case maker also lists one shell for iPhone 16e and 17e. That claim applies only to its product. It does not show that every 16e case works with 17e. No other cross-model pair in the chart has verified shared support.
Case design matters inside a verified pair. One shell may use a larger camera opening that clears both phones. Another may use a tight opening for one camera module. The product page for the exact case is the final compatibility check.
Do iPhone 16 Cases Fit iPhone 17?
No. iPhone 16 measures 147.6 × 71.6 × 7.80 mm and has a 6.1-inch display. iPhone 17 measures 149.6 × 71.5 × 7.95 mm and has a 6.3-inch display. Apple also shows a different camera system. Mous says its iPhone 16 cases do not fit iPhone 17.
The Pro models changed too. Choose the exact phone when viewing iPhone 16 cases or iPhone 17 cases.
Which Cases Fit the iPhone 16e?
Use a case labeled for iPhone 16e. It measures 146.7 × 71.5 × 7.80 mm, but the sources do not verify it with iPhone 16, 13 or 14. Similar size is not enough because the cameras and controls differ.
Use a 16e/17e shared shell only when that case maker lists both phones. Miucases had no verified 16e option in the relevant collections at review time, so this guide does not link to one.
iPhone 17e and iPhone Air Case Compatibility
Apple calls the models iPhone 17e and iPhone Air. iPhone Air has a 6.5-inch display and measures 156.2 × 74.7 × 5.64 mm. Use a case listed for iPhone Air.
iPhone 17e measures 146.7 × 71.5 × 7.80 mm and has a 6.1-inch display. Use an exact-model case unless its maker also lists iPhone 16e. Miucases had no verified 17e option in the checked collections.
Why Same-Size iPhones Can Need Different Cases
Size covers only the outside measurements. A new camera module or control can break compatibility even when height, width and depth stay the same. iPhone 15 and 16 show this problem: their listed dimensions match, but iPhone 16 adds Camera Control and changes the rear cameras.
- Camera: The opening must clear every lens, sensor and flash.
- Controls: The mute switch, Action Button and Camera Control need the right button placement.
- Bottom edge: The Lightning or USB-C port, speakers and microphones need matching cutouts.
- Frame: Thickness and corner shape affect how a rigid case sits.
The chart has several useful traps. iPhone 12 mini and 13 mini share height and width, but not depth or camera layout. iPhone 15 and 16 share all three listed body measurements, yet the newer phone changes its cameras and adds Camera Control. iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 17 share height and width, but their depth and camera systems differ.
5 Things to Check Before Reusing an Older Case
- Confirm the full model name. Include mini, Plus, Pro, Pro Max, Air or e.
- Read the case maker's model list. Both phones must appear on the exact case or SKU.
- Check the camera opening. It must clear the full camera system.
- Test buttons and openings. Do not force the phone into the case. The controls, USB-C port or Lightning port, speakers and microphones must stay usable.
- Check the edges and corners. Stop if the shell bows, pinches a control or leaves a corner loose.
Do not trim or force an older case to make it fit. If any opening or control is wrong, replace it with a case listed for the exact phone.

Do iPhone 15 cases fit iPhone 17?
No shared fit was verified. The phones differ in size, controls and camera layout. A larger camera opening alone does not make an iPhone 15 case compatible. Use an exact iPhone 17 case.
Can Pro and regular iPhones share a case?
Do not assume they can. Base and Pro phones may share a display size while using different cameras. The iPhone 12 and 12 Pro exception applies only to cases that list both models. For every other pair, check the full product listing.
Does the same screen size mean cases are compatible?
No. Screen size does not show camera openings, button placement, ports, thickness or corner shape. Match the full model name and the case maker's compatibility list. Two 6.1-inch phones can still need different cases.
